Baltimore Ravens is an American football team from Maryland. They belong to the younger generation of football teams – their NFL franchise has only been granted in the 90s. Regardless of that, they are considered one of the strongest teams in the League overall.

Who owns Baltimore Ravens? The team is owned by a businessman called Stephen Bisciotti. As such, his net worth is valued at more than $3 billion.

The team was created in 1996 in Baltimore, Maryland. The official stance on the name choice tells us it was actually a reference to the Edgar Allan Poe poem, ‘the Raven’. However, it’s likely just an explanation, and they picked it because many Baltimore sports teams already use birds for branding, and ‘Ravens’ sounds intimidating.

1996 – 1998

Originally, the logo consisted of a golden shield with black frame and wings on each side. The wings were jet black and belonged to the crow. The same aesthetic they used for it was also used for the ‘B’ letter in the very middle of the shield. They made it black and added some ruffled feathers onto the corner.
The only other notably element was the name ‘Ravens’ written on the upper part of the shield in white.

1998 – today

The 1998 one was instead a turned head of a raven. It was illustrated rather artistically, and it only marginally resembles a crow: the feathers are purple, the beak is white and there are just some black parts around the eyes.
The entire head is also outlined in gold. This color is also used for another ‘B’, featured this time on the side of the head. The feathery part from before is now supplanted with a simple claw-like extension.

Helmet History

Ravens have only had a few helmet designs through their history. Almost all are almost completely black with a single stripe of purple running through the midline. There are also some purplish variants, but they aren’t used as much. All the helmets naturally use the current logos on their sides.

Uniform History

Baltimore Ravens Uniform

Most of their uniform combinations featured purple, black and white. The most popular one by far has always been purple jerseys/white pants/black socks. The reverse – white jerseys/purple pants – has also been in use very frequently. The other popular one is the fully black uniform, but there’ve also been other variations.
