History Logo

Edmonton Oilers Logo history

The team was founded in 1972. Back then, it used the name ‘Alberta Oilers’, but it soon was changed to ‘Edmonton Oilers’. This city was once famous for its Oil Kings, who got the nickname ‘Oilers’. So, to become associative with Edmonton, the club decided to choose this nickname in the name and brand style.

1972 – 1979

The original logotype depicts the team’s blue-colored name with the tails coming from each letter, together combining the semicircle. The word was put inside the circle (of the blue color, too). Upper in the circle, we can see the orange flame.

1979 – 1986

The following logotype was made way darker.

1986 – 1996

The 1986 team emblem had the similar design to the 1979 logo, but with a bit brighter flame.

1996 – 2011

Again, the logo gained some modifications. This time, we can mention the very pale color style of the logo, and the bright red thin contour of the whole emblem.

2011 – 2017

The 2011 logo lost its red contour and became more colorful, in contrast to the 1996 version.

The 2017 variant also pictures the renovated elements of the logo. Now the name and circle gained almost black style, while the flame became orange.

Helmet History

Edmonton Oilers Helmet

The helmet appeared in 1979. It hadn’t any special features, and was just the simple helmet of blue or white color. With the time, they added the team insignia on it. As the time passed, the team started to use the helmets of two variants with the white or orange logotype.
