Brooklyn point guard Kyrie Irving will miss a scheduled meeting with reporters to mark the start of training camp. The basketball player will not be able to attend team events due to coronavirus prevention protocols in force in New York. The city’s authorities require local athletes to be fully vaccinated.

Irving does not want to be vaccinated against the coronavirus and is spreading conspiracy theories about the dangers of vaccination among his fellow NBA basketball players. In particular, Irving questioned the advisability of using the Moderna vaccine in communication with other NBA players, this issue was discussed in group chats of some teams. Roughly 50-60 NBA players are still unvaccinated before the start of training camp. Irving and Golden State forward Andrew Wiggins risk missing all of their teams’ home games due to restrictions imposed by New York and San Francisco.
